Climate: tropical climate moderated by tradewinds
Common Flora: Coconut palms, ebony trees, bougainvilla, plumeria, hibiscus, orchids, ferns, wild poinsettia and rhododendron. Food crops, such as taro, yams, and cassava, are also grown
Common Fauna: Most land vertebrates are birds, although fruit bats are native to the island. Farm animals, rats and feral cats have been introduced by people. Cocounut crabs are a common invertebrate.
Notes:

  • Niue is a "makatea" island, a raised coral atoll. It is one of the largest coral islands in the world.
  • Niue is one of the smallest self-governing states in the world.
