Common Flora: Coconut palms are one of the most common species of land plants in the Marshall Islands.Sea grasses and algae are common marine plants.

Common Fauna: 70+ species of birds including 15 species of seabirds known to breed in the Marshall Islands. Lizards, crabs, bats, rats, cats and dogs make up most of the land animals.

Notes:

  • The main inhabited atolls and islands are situated in two almost parallel chain-like formations known as the Ratak (Sunrise) group and Ralik (Sunset) group
  • The Marshall Island atolls Bikini and Enewetak were used as nuclear test sites by the U.S. during the 1940′s and 50′s.
